A NOTE FROM THE DESK

Fiction, on purpose.

The Struggle is a continuing work of speculative fiction. Its chapters are stories, not reporting, and its editorial characters are imagined. The plush companions nod to the friendly shapes of contemporary AI culture; they are not official representatives of OpenAI, Meta, or any other company.

How a chapter takes shape.

Every chapter begins with a writer, who sets down the story's long arc: its turns, its tensions, the people caught in the middle. From there the desk takes over. August, June and Milo shape each thread into a single day's chapter, written with care and released every morning, so the story keeps unfolding one quiet day at a time.

We write about a possible near future: one where machines provide enough food and shelter, yet people still wrestle with purpose, trust, and the fear of losing control. Our interest is not in a flawless machine, but in the complicated people learning to live beside it.
